Robin (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/23/2006

Number: 1

Filling the bird feeders, I noticed a robin silently tiptoeing beneath one of the blue spruces. An answering chirp seemed to encourage the bird to hop up into it's shelter. The wind was cold and raw and temps were low all day. Not very good worm hunting weather! I notice that the robins seem very quiet on days like this, probably saving energy. The Dorthea crabapple shows signs of being a bird feeder - bits of it's fruit are strewn about the ground. Both the robins and cedar waxwings use it's heavy crop of fruit this time of year. Waxwings tuck up under one of those frozen fruits, open wide and swallow the whole thing! That would be like swallowing a whole popscicle! Robins peck away at the tiny apples. You would think the situation would be reversed...
