Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/23/2006

Number: 1

Well it
is noon here in Monticello. Ms. Monarch has only laid one egg since yesterday.
I am beginning to wonder if the colder temperatures might have slowed down the
egg laying.

When she was laying
the larger number of eggs, the outside temperatures were in the 80's, and while
my office temperatures were not that high, they were in the upper 70's.

Ms. Monarch is
on a table next to a large window on the north side of the building, and while
it is not as cold inside

as it is outside, it is in the mid 60's there. (At noon today, the temperature
is 43F outside and 69F in my office.)

I know it takes
a certain temperature for monarchs to be active and fly, I don't know what temperatures
are necessary for egg production. Maybe I will move her to a warmer place and
see what happens.
