All Other Signs of Spring

Underneath a blanket of mulch, many perrenials are pushing--hollyhock, phlox, monarda, turtlehead, pulmonaria, lilies--the temptation to rake away the mulch is strong BUT the way this winter has been, maybe we'll wait just a bit longer!! Tulips buds are showing and daffodils are getting ready to bloom. Crocuses have been blooming awhile, daylilies are several inches up. The columbine is well on its way and several shrubs are just waiting for the predicted warmth this week. Maple tree buds are fat and rosy, just waiting to explode. Lots of little annoying bugs around--we have had reports of catbirds around the North New Jersey area-haven't seen any myself yet, usually have a pair nesting in the wild rose bush. The frogs disappeared when the last cold snap hit--hope the warmer temps bring them back out
