All Other Signs of Spring

Temps touched the 50's today, but the March wind felt cold! The swamp willows glowed gold as the sun touched the faraway horizon. Peepers sang loudly from the dark pond, then quickly hushed. A blue heron swept low as it flew northward, no one wanted to join him for supper! In the much disputed poplar, a redwing blackbird changed battle tactics. Instead of flying at a stubborn robin, he sat down beside Mr. Redbreast and tried pushing him off the branch! At first glance I wasn't sure if we might have a strange hybrid species in the making! Ruffled ground along our trails gave evidence of deer and turkeys are looking for fresh sprouts. And the earthworms must be active judging by the mole activity. My crew of spotted Zounds kept scaring up the cottontails, but were more interested in the warm spots the bunnies left behind.
