Last weekend was in the mid-40s. Not warm at all. We did an out and back into Cutters. On the way out, 4:30 or so, we heard nothing. But coming back, the Spring Peepers were there. It was about a half hour before dark. Pretty neat--I love hearing them! At the same time, we heard what sounded like hundreds of red-winged blackbirds bedding down for the night in a reed-choked wetlands. I was surprised to hear all this. It wasn't warm at all last week. But last week in the Blue Hills, I came across a snapping turtle half way out of Ponkapoag Pond--there were ice-cycles dangling off the reeds, ice going out into the pond. I picked up the turtle and it moved it's leg and opened its mouth. That was about all it could do. I think early Spring is here! Skunk Cabbage was up too. What's happening out your way?
