We have 2 Rufous at our place in Saanich; there is one at Fanny Bay (north of Parksville) and three on Gabriola Island plus one at Duncan. That i
s it as many as I've heard. Last year on March 23 I banded 13 at my place.
We have no idea why Rufous are not coming, but speculate there was a cold
period in the western sates holding up the flowers and hence the migrating
Rufous. Or the population has really crashed as predicted by Bill Calder
some years ago because of habitat destruction form Mexico thru western US and into Canada? Only time will tell.
