Visted the Caw Caw Interpretive Center in Ravenel, SC on Sunday afternoon 4/2/06.
Habitatincludes from hardwood forest, hardwood swamp, maritime forest and old rice fields. Wood satyrs were very common. Observed Monarch 1. It is the first sighting of a monarch for me. I will check with one local expert to see if he observed them sooner. I saw another monarch in my parents back yard 2 days ago and my mother likely saw the same individual this morning. They live in North Charleston near the Ashley river and Interstate 526. Have not noticed any milkweed other than the ones I just planted (no flowers). The adult observed by my mother was feeding on pansies. When I saw it, it was flying over camelias and azaleas. I did not notice any milkweed at the CawCaw site.
