Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/07/2006

Number: 1

This is by far the earliest I have ever seen a hummer in this county. Records from previous years:

05-10-05

05-07-04

05-11-03

05-10-02

05-03-01

is was late afternoon and apparently it had been attracted to a spot where suet was hung from a bright orange net bag, like the ones you get oranges from the grocery store. It was too far for me to see much about it other than it hovered a few seconds and darted back and forth twice. I had some nectar in the freezer and quickly thawed it out and hung it outside. I haven't seen it since.
