Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/07/2006

Number: 1

I put my feeders up early as we went on vacation. Based on the maps and weather/other signs I thought they might show earlier than usual.

It is one week earlier than usual. First a male came to check to see if the feeders were up around 2pm. He left and around 4:30 there were 2 more buzzing the front feeders and flowering quince in the front yard and anoter one in the flowering quince in the backyard. They didn't really stay at the feeders much but were in and out of the quince flowers. I didn't have the old feeders out yet, these are new ones I just got. I plan to get some more up tomorrow as they will be flying in more each day.

We usually feed 50-100 hummingbirds every day in April/May. I have over 25 feeders scattered over the yard. It helps to have the flowering quince and red tulips to bring them in. Happy Humming!
