Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/06/2006

Number: 1

it is difficult to get a good read on when monarchs that wintered in Mexico get to the South Carolina coastal area. We have some monarchs here during winter, as I saw monarchs each month Dec-Mar.

I think we are now seeing a big push of butterflies that wintered in Mexico or at least farther south than SC. I've seen more monarchs over that past week than I can ever recall for early April. Part of this is because I am spending a lot of time outdoors in my project that includes surveys of coastal islands, but I think there are just more monarchs moving through this year.
