Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/12/2006

Number: 1

We are in Tulsa, OK. We have raised Monarch's for well over 30 yrs. We had always read that they bred going North in the spring, but they always bred on the Blue Vine in our yard in late August or early Sept.
as they moved South. We have released as many as 150 some yrs.

Last fall there were very few. We released a few, but over the yrs.
problems have developed from the hatching stage on. Now we are seeing a few pale colored butterflies looking for places to lay eggs. There is only one egg that I know of in the garden. This is the first time in all these yrs. that I have seen them in the spring. It is also the first time I have seen Blue Vine shoots this early. We had a very strange winter and early spring, so everything is out of kilter. It will be interesting to see if any show up in the fall.
