Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/13/2006

Number: 1

Well the day finally arrived... When I got to the lab this morning Ms. Monarch was flapping around her cage in a rather feeble manner. I put her on the nectar cup and she began sipping from it, but when I got back from class at noon she had expired.

There were no new eggs for today, so yesterday's eggs were her last. She now has the record for most eggs laid and length of life once in captivity here in Monticello. I am still seeing faded monarchs laying on the potted milkweed outside the lab, but yesterday afternoon I caught a glimpse of what looked like a fresh, brightly colored monarch going by my window.
