Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/11/2006

Number: 1

I did not see any milkweeds in southwest Louisiana and so no monarch eggs or caterpillars. The antelope horn milkweed, A. viridis, was fairly common on the old coastal ridges know as cheniers. The plants would have been the first hosts encountered by monarchs returning to the US from Mexico after their trans-Gulf crossing. As mentioned earlier, I found nary a plant on April 8.
