Tulips BLOOMED

Date: 03/22/2006

Number: 1

Our 1st tulip bloomed today - 3/22/2006! We are eagerly waiting for more of our tulips to open. The weather here in the Willamette Valley has been quite unpredictable this year - a mixture of cold (upper teens) to warm (lower 60's) all within the span of two month. Our flowers are sure to be confused about when to open or stay a sleep. Small black spots have shown up on the pedals of many of our tulips. Some students think these little tulip pedal sun burns are the result of rain drops acting like small prisms magnifying sun light onto our tulips. With the mixed-up weather patterns we’ve experienced this year, this theory may be true. Last year the tulips in our JN Garden did not experience this phenomenon. We are still moving ahead with plans to build a LEGO Robot to measure soil temperature in our garden. Hazaa!
