While mowing my yard yesterday I was very surprised to see a very faded monarch. This monarch was fluttering around the lilac tree which is in full bloom and appeared to be a vigorous flier. Unfortunately, we don't have any milkweed for it just yet. I have collected and raised caterpillars for my classrooms for many years and in this area that takes place in late Aug. and early Sept.
