Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/27/2006

Number: 1

There was a faded monarch laying eggs in the milkweed patch this morning. On 4/25 I spotted the first new generation monarch, with brightly colored wings, resting on a small oak tree. I counted 8 monarchs in one hour on 4/22. Some were nectaring on wildflowers and others were laying eggs on the common and native(spider)milkweed. One the same day I spotted a faded female that was flying from one milkweed plant to the other. She flew close by and I could hear the faint flapping sound of her worn wings.
