Robin (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/28/2006

Number: 1

I guess this would fall under the category of "Ask an Expert" but we have been watching a robin for the last 3 hours persistently try to fly into our house. The robin is trying to get into our living room. It sits on our deck railing and flies (gently, thank goodness) into the window and pecks at it. We have tried closing the curtains, shooing it away and sending our dog out onto the deck to no avail. It is now beginning to get dark and the bird is still at it. The bird walks up and down the railing in between attempts cocking its head and studying the situation. It has come at the window from several different angles so I can tell it is thinking about how to solve the problem. Is this a territorial behavior? Does it see it's reflection and think it's another male bird? We always have many robin nests under the deck. Last year we had 6. Is this bird a dumby or unusually smart and persistent?
