Robin (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/29/2006

Number: 1

Well, something bad happened today. While I was at work in the A.M., my wife called to advise me that, while she was in the shower she heard a ruckus out by the nesting robin. She got out of the shower to see what was going on and saw that mamma robin was fighting with another robin (perhaps the male). Anyway she found feathers under the tree (they look like robin feathers)and later on, the eggs in the nest were broken. My wife noted that the mother Robin was eating what was left of the three eggs, shortly after things calmed down.

I came home for lunch and saw that the nest was empty. When I returned home in the evening I noticed a blue jay was hanging around the yard and flew directly over to the robins nest to check in out. When it saw the empty nest it flew away. I wonder if the Blue Jay was the culprit earlier in the day. Anyway the mother Robin returned a few more times over the course of an hour. She went over to the tree where the nest is but never entered the nest. She has not been back in hours. I am wondering if she has abandoned the nest completely or if she will return to lay more eggs??? Can anyone give me some clue ??? Thanks in advance. Bob Solimena
