All Other Signs of Spring

I just got back from a wonderful ride to the grove with my crazy galloping dogs around 5 pm. When I wrote this morning, I wondered if the extra owl I saw yesterday - Sunday - was a visiting Auntie Whoo. This afternoon there are two very fuzzy breasted owls out on the limb near the nest, they look like they have fur coats on backwards. The parents chests are smooth feathered with barred patterns. As tall as their parents, they stared solemnly with big curious eyes at the dogs sniffing below. They didn't seem a bit afraid, probably because we pass through the grove almost daily. So my question is answered, the owlets are fledging and nearly full grown and it was one of them I saw yesterday, not an auntie!
They sat cuddled and leaning into each other, taking in the sights around them. There were no parents around. I suspect Mr. and Mrs. are letting them get good and hungry so they will learn how to hunt tonite. They seem to have their flight feathers despite all the fluff!
