My wife and I walked along a country road this evening. I noticed the milkweed, up about 8 inches, was eaten heavily along one stretch. After a quick check I noted 8 cats, all 2nd instars. We've had 5 inches of rain over the last week and the fields are now in great shape.
Editor's Note: the presence of 2nd instar larvae indicates that eggs were laid roughly a week earlier. Thus, the date of this adult arrival is estimated at April 24, 2006.
