Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/19/2006

Number: 1

I reported some monarch eggs on my tropical milkweed on (4/27/06 ) and took the plant to my daughter's 3rd grade class at Cambride Elementary (Sra. Ancira's class) to show the eggs to the kids. I took it back to my yard and forgot to check the plant until a few weeks later when I noticed 6 late instar larvae on it. By 5/15/05 all had left but one. I put that caterpillar and some milkweed in a container and took it up to school so the kids could keep it in the classroom and observe it. The kids decided to name it "Jelly bean". Jelly Bean formed a chrysalis the following day on May 16th. They are taking notes on it and will write about it. We are hoping it will emerge before school ends!
