Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/26/2006

Number: 1

At last, at 5 pm this afternoon, on a hot and getting muggier nearly summer day, a monarch sprang into the air! It had been nectaring on the blooms of an autumn olive. The air smells honeysuckle sweet from all of these small shrubby trees. The monarch was lively and looked fresh and young! I've been out looking daily but the weather has been quite cold and rainy. We had frosts on Sunday and Monday. Quite an up and down spring in the Great Lakes area. Now we may touch the 90's by Monday! Moody looking thunderstorms are building to the east of us as the afternoon kicks up the humidity drifting inland. Milkweed is beginning to leaf out from it's huddled hugging to keep warm!
