I observed one Monarch hilltopping on a hill crest in the Sylvan Runkel State Preserve, Monona County, Iowa, at about 4:15 p.m. Central Daylight Time. It was partly sunny (was clearing after an overcast morning), 80 degrees F, and windy at the hilltop. This area is on the western edge of the Loess Hills region in western Iowa.
