The first Monarch I have seen this season was in my garden around 3:30 p.m. It was 92 degrees by my digital indoor/outdoor thermometer, although the weather forecaster claimed a high of 89 (his station is out in the country). Very humid. Miserable for humans in the sun, probably great for butterflies! The female was very faded looking although not tattered, and despite my hopes, simply rested on the fence and then a milkweed plant - no sign of eggs. I have nothing in bloom - French lilacs just finished, no nectar there, only Oriental poppies otherwise and a couple of zinnias in the front yard. Hope she found something. I have many milkweed plants (Swamp, common, tuberosa/butterfly weed, showy), and the milkweed beetles starting appearing a couple of days ago.
