Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 06/18/2006

Number: 1

Hi. I previously reported my sighting of a mother hummingbird building a nest 5 feet from our doorway, in a ficus tree, and laying a clutch of 2 eggs. Both babies hatched on Father's Day, 6/18/06. Everything has been going very well until today. I saw the mommy on her nest only one time today and I saw her in the air, hovering, another time during the day. Those two times were the only time I saw her. Normally, the mom is very active during the day but is always on her nest at night. It is 1:46 am PST and I haven't seen the mommy since daylight. Should I be concerned? The babies have had their heads above the nest for hours, awaiting their mommy's arrival with food I am sure. I'm very worried. Is there anything I can do? The babies haven't opened their eyes yet.

Please advise. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Tamara Rosen
