Monarch flight in Manitoba
We had a good influx of Monarchs into Manitoba this
spring, with many sightings between Pinawa and
Winnipeg from late May onward. Friends have
told me of large numbers of caterpillars on milkweed
in Winnipeg recently.
On a trip to the Interlake last week, I had several
sightings near the northern range limit:
June 12: Star Lake Road north of Lundar (50° 41' 44" N
- 98° 01' 51" W) (several individuals); Hwy 6 just
north of Grahamdale (51° 23' 32" N - 98° 29' 59" W)
June 14: Salt Point (51° 45' 11" N - 99° 48' 45" W)
(s.e. corner of Lake Winnipegosis, west of Waterhen;
several individuals; around 51-45N, 99-48W).
