Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/27/2006

Number: 1

Whenever one of our Backyard Habitat for Wildlife
projects pays off I am always excited.
We planted a few milkweed seeds a few years ago and
now have half a dozen plants. They are about 4 feet
high now and are covered with flower buds.

This afternoon I took a break and for the first time
this year decided to lay in the hammock under the
cherry trees. The SUN is actually shining for brief
periods between the clouds today.

I was only there a
few minutes when a Monarch drifted by. I jumped up
and went over to the milkweed plants and there was
another Monarch flitting amongst the plants. I ran
for the camera and took several pictures as the
Monarch repeatedly lit on the plants and then drifted
off.

It returned to the plants several times,
checking the buds on each plant and then drifting off
again. Back to some housework now and a meeting later but I
am so glad I took that hammock break today.
