Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 07/09/2006

Number: 1

This is definitely worth mentioning... July 8th, 2006 our very first brand new Monarch butterflies of the year emerged into the world, and the following day July 9th, 5 more emerged from their chrysalids! This is something we usually witness only in September, but this year the first Monarchs are being born in July in our prairie garden!!! The early Spring and hot weather has definitely speeded up their "usual" cycle - and more eggs are being laid too! There are probably more that have "eclosed" which we're not aware of, but there's 7 for sure so far, and more to come as the rest of the visible chrysalids change from green to transparent... It's a good year for butterflies! :)
