It was Saturday morning aprox. 11:30 a.m. My son, who had participated in a school project last year at Harbour Grace Primary, noticed the butterfly. I wasn't sure at first, but I took some pictures and later looked up the Monarch Butterfly on the internet. It was a male Monarch Butterfly. I can send the pictures if you wish. I have never seen a Monarch Butterfly in this area, only at school last year. The school had some caterpillers and watched as they formed into beautiful Monarch Butterflies. I would like to know if the Monarch has ever been sited in this area? Did they travel back here because they migrated from this area last year? Maybe someone in the area had recently released the butterfly. Whatever the case, I was surprised to see it.
