Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/03/2006

Number: 1

Several Monarchs were seen today visiting our schoolyard habitat (which is a certified Waystation through Monarch Watch) drinking nectar from various native perennials (mainly New England Aster). In the past week, the students and I have collected sixteen larva in various stages (a first instar larva was collected on August 29th) and today I collected two larva in third and fourth instars. We are raising the larva indoors in homemade booster boxes to prevent predation and will be tagging and releasing them when they emerge as adults.
