Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/07/2006

Number: 1

I had 2 dark, crisp Monarchs in my yard late this afternoon- 4pm CST; 80*, brisk wind from the SW - one male & one female. They were nectaring on my lavendar and white butterfly bushes and the large sunflowers. Only stayed around for an hour and then disappeared. My husband was mowing, so don't know if they were chased away. They may have been just newly emerged ones getting the courage to fly. There were a couple of caterpillars on my butterfly flower that were later than the others. They must of had their chrysalis' hid very well- I never did find them. None of the other ones that emerged in my flower bed stayed around either.
This is the first ones I've seen in my yard for over a week. 2 days ago I thought there was one, but it turned out to be a Viceroy.
