I had one female today around noon- sunny, 83*, brisk SW wind. She chose my lavender butterfly bush, but only stayed around about 30 minutes. Walked to our local "Gateway Park Preserve & Arboretum"- it is an old sand pit and has alot of natural habitat, with a walking/bike trail around it. Noticed several large Monarch nectaring on the Goldenrod and wild sunflowers. It was close to dusk and several acted like they were getting ready to roost in a large river birch at the NE corner of the 20 acre preserve. This is the first time I've noticed any activity down there- but hadn't checked since last week. It's beginning to look more promising. The weather in IA is suppose to turn rainy & day temps. of 65* for the next 3 days. Don't know what that will do to Monarch activity. I hope to get back down to the park tommorrow or Sun. between showers?
