Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/09/2006

Number: 1

I have seen many Monarch butterflies in my flower gardens during
July and August. In early August I found several 1st instar
caterpillars on Swamp milkweed- brought them inside to raise as I have Assassin flies around that attack them. Since August 2 I have found eggs and more larva and have released 22 Monarchs. I am
a pre-school teacher and now have several eggs that I hope will
hatch this week so that my classes can view the life-cycle and
then release the butterflies to fly to Mexico. It is such an exciting learning activity for children!
