Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/13/2006

Number: 1

A friend's brother who lives about 1/2 hr from my home in Oxford, Ohio called to say they were seeing lots of monarchs arriving in their back yard around 4pm on Sept. 13. We arrived about an hour later to see monarchs flying around everywhere we looked. We counted a few clusters of 100 monarchs already roosting with multiple other clusters forming on a pine and 2 ash trees. We estimated at least 500 to 600 already roosting and another few hundred flying around looking for just the right tree or branch. The migration is definitely here and right on time. Our peak dates start on Sept 14.
