Three of us went to a large field (marked for destruction with a lots for sale sign) to net and tag around 11:30 am this morning. The field had only red clover, queen anne's lace and grasses. The monarchs were nectering only on the red clover. We netted and tagged 31 in the first 30 min. We continued longer for a grand total of 69 in about 1 and 1/2 hrs with time out for recording and tagging. The most we have seen up to now. It was a sunny day with no wind. Very little directional flight noted.
