Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/10/2006

Number: 1

I went up to NW Ohio this last weekend to see a roost of monarchs near Ottawa OH. The home is in the middle of acres of farm fields, two fields of which are in red clover this year. Great nectaring for the butterflies! Two weeks ago, they had thousands of butterflies sheltering in his heavily-treed back yard, last week they had hundreds. I visited on Friday night when there were perhaps 4-5 hundred (and tagged 85 of them). Monday night when I last visited, the roost was down to about a hundred.
