Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/17/2006

Number: 1

At 1:30PM a Monarch was seen under the lip of my front door, just feet from a Dwarf Hanoki Cypress that is hung with at least 7 chrysialises. It was a bit caught in old spider web, but managed to free itself. Soon afterwards two Monarchs, looking brillsintly colored (new?) were seen on Butterfly Bush, in the backyard, and one in the frontyard, where there are Black Eye Susans still in bloom, along with Sedum Autumn Joy.
At the same time, one of the chysialises is blackened and one is beginning to develop black blothches. There are chrysalyses on the Hanoki, on the siding of the house, on a twig og the former host plant, and 2 are on a weather vane which is "planted" in the ground near the Hanoki.
