Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/17/2006

Number: 1

A couple of weeks ago, we were out in a meadow in northern Vermont, which was filled with milkweed and asters. We searched and searched, but only found 1 or 2 chrysalids. To our surprise, when we visited this past weekend, the meadow was a-flutter in nectaring monarchs! We counted 25 in just a few minutes. We wondered if they were 1) the monarchs that had emerged on that milkweed, 2) passers-by, or 3) some of both!
