Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/18/2006

Number: 1

As I was driving from one of my schools to the other, only a mile or so, I saw at least 50 monarchs crossing the street within a 10 minute period. They were flying low and not stopping to eat. They were definately not "riding" the wind, which may be why they were so low. We can always count on them coming in on the cold fronts that move through Kansas. On 9/16 it was 69degrees here. 9/17 was about 10 degrees lower. Yesterday, 9/18 was when I saw an immense influx. They were ahead of some very chilly weather as it was in the 40's last night for the first time this season.
