Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/22/2006

Number: 1

A woman I know who lives between Black Mountain and Chimney Rock, NC who has had monarchs roost in her yard in previous years called me about 3-4 p.m. today. She said that there was a major migration going on through her yard this afternoon (she and her husband watched for an hour before they had to stop and get on with their work for the day). During the hour they watched, she said they were passing at a rate of 30 per MINUTE!!!! They were still migrating through when she called me. She said it was the most she had seen since 2002, when they roosted in her yard.
