Today at noon I released my last Monarch for 2006. He was a strong male who was READY to go. He emerged yesterday but, unfortunately, fell to the floor of the box. Luckily, I found him in time and gave him a stick to cling to, which he readily accepted and successfully straighten his wings. This morning, I had decided not to release him yet because the weather was so rainy (although it is warm) but, by noon, I could tell that he NEEDED to be on his way. When I opened the box, he immediately flew up and out to a nearby pear tree. Within 5 minutes, he had his bearings and took to the sky toward the south. It is sad to watch the last one leave. I wished him well on his long journey and I felt grateful that I was able to help him along his way.
