Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/22/2006

Number: 1

Yesterday was beautiful in northeast Ohio. The butterflys were on the move. The temperatures were in the 60s and it was very sunny. My students spotted over 200 butterflys in our area. They actually saw a lot during gym class over our football heading in a southerly direction. They also saw about a dozen during their recess/lunch time. A lot of them are flying near treetops. My students also see them eating on their grapes and other nectar producing flowers. Some were eating on pears on the ground. Basking seemed to happening in low numbers on shingles, rocks, hoods of vehicles. Most of the butterflys they saw were flying. It was a good day for them to fly!
