On the Blue Ridge Parkway at Harvey's Knob, the Hawk Migration Association reported:
"Monarch butterflies were moving in large numbers today and our watchers made a very conservative count of 673."
They counted 355 monarchs the day before (9/18) but assumed they probably missed quite a few when they had a big push of nearly 400 broadwing hawks in one 50-minute period.
