My students and I have been counting Monarchs flying S-SW over Park School in Brookline since last Friday. They and I have logged 14 hours of watching and in that time we have seen 1548 Monarchs, which translates to 111 per hour. About half of our Monarch total - 750 - was seen today in 4 1/2 hours (167 per hour). We've also seen 3 species of migrating dragonflies, a Peregrine Falcon (and quite a few other hawks), a number of Common Nighthawks (11 today), cormorants, Great Blue Herons, etc. If only Monarchs would do this more often!
