Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/28/2006

Number: 1

Between 3:45 and 4 PM this afternoon we counted 309 monarchs within our limited field of vision. We counted what we could see coming over the top of our house and through a group of trees to the east. The seemed to come in spurts. All were headed to the southwest.

Oh, my gosh! I have never seen monarchs roost before! It was amazing. This really makes you realize how many times that our busy work schedules make us miss the treasures in this world. We live in the Ozarks and our house is surrounded by woods. The roost occurred in two trees - a red oak and a white oak. The numbers started off small and even as I type continue to grow. There are hundreds now! I have pictures if anyone wants me to e-mail them some. 5:50 PM
