There has been at least 3 different hummers feeding in the back yard all summer. The last time I cleaned/refilled the feeder it was surrounded by ants (I figured out after I got the feeder down & felt thousands of legs scrambling along my arms). Frustrated & creeped out, I decided to apply Vaseline to the hanging wire on the feeder.
Well, my Vaseline worked, but not in a good way. The Hummers stayed away too. (or migrated, not sure)
I believe the Hummers have a much better sense of smell than we give them credit for.
