At approximately 6 PM we counted 400 monarchs flying west to Cupsogue Beach (the most western part of Dune Road), Westhampton Beach, Long Island...We then counted approximately 100 very slow moving monarchs settling in the trees nearest to the path aprroaching the boardwalk...
The follwing evening 9/26/06 we traveled just half an hour earlier and none flying west...We found about 50...quite active compared to the previous evening, getting ready to 'roost?'..When we drove back east we saw about 50 approaching the same trees at Cupsogue Beach...
On Thursday evening 9/28/06 we saw none at the same spots
