Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/27/2006

Number: 1

I am a member of a local Nature group that shares sightings(NatureNS listserve). This report is based on a sighting just report by an N.S. fisherman, birder and whale watch tour guide, Carl Haycock, from Brier Island, Nova Scotia. Here is a quote from his sighting:

"Wednesday and Thursday,(27/28 Sept.) Brier Island was loaded with Monarch's. I've never seen so many. They were whereever you looked, always floating in through the corner of your eye.

Carl frequently submits reports on NatureNS. Brier Island, because of its geographic location is a regular migrating funnelling route for fall migrations for monarchs and birds and a great whale watching area.

I am a retired teacher and an active naturalist who assists in our local schoolwith nature and science activities. Two classes are presently doing a project related to Monarch butterflies and their migration. There have been several reports and discussion on our NatureNS listserve this past week regarding sig
