Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/29/2006

Number: 1

Hundreds of Monarchs graced the skies of Paducah and Western Kentucky today. While traveling south on I24 from Paducah to the Gracie Kentucky exit(11:00am-12:00pm), I was able to count 385 Monarchs from the car. From Gracie to Clarksville,Tennessee(12:00pm-12:30pm), I saw another 26--making the total for the entire trip 411 Monarchs. Some were actively flying and some seem to be catching a breeze. Most of them seemed to travel in groups of 2,10 and even 50. There were a few lone Monarchs but not many. All were traveling in a SSW direction.
