The weather was supposed to be rainy in Toronto today, but the rain did not arrive until 5 pm. The first part of the day was very cool - temperatures may have dropped down to 5 C in the city last night. By 2 pm, it was quite warm in the sun, in spite of intermittent clouds, and I decided to check out Cranberry Marsh near Lynde Shores Conservation Area east of Toronto at Whitby on the north shore of Lake Ontario. Monarchs were not abundant, but over 1.5 hours, I captured 48 lovely pristine monarchs in a sheltered, tree-lined area on the west side of this huge field of goldenrod and aster. Outside of this area, strong south-westerly winds blew. These monarchs will be tagged and released.
Do any of these have a chance of making Mexico. Not sure. Chances are now greatly reduced. Years ago, I did have one that I tagged on Sept. 20th picked up in Mexico.
